MKVL 5 News

Web design, brand identity, motion graphics

Context

Scope

This is a team project from my Web UI/UX coursework in which I collaborated with my colleagues Luna and Joey. There were multiple large components to the assignment, and each of us took our respective leads. I handled the majority of layout and prototype development.

Client

MKVL Channel 5 serves Southeast Iowa and Northeast Missouri with trusted local news, weather, sports, and alerts. As part of Billiard Broadcasting, MKVL connects the region through both on-air and digital platforms.

Challenge

During Billiard Broadcasting’s rebrand, MKVL needed a modern site that reflected its new identity and strengthened community connection. The previous site lacked mobile optimization and missed key opportunities to increase digital ad revenue.

Solution

We redesigned MKVL’s website to be mobile-first, accessible, and ad-ready. The new platform emphasizes local coverage and usability, creating a streamlined experience that builds trust and supports long-term growth.

The brand

Say hello to the new MKVL 5 News.

Awards

Did I mention this project was part of a class contest? As part of the requirements, we also needed to establish a fictitious marketing agency + brand presence and collateral. After pitching our MKVL 5 News solutions, my team, “Snout & Co.” came out on top. Sure, there were only two other teams…but a win is certainly a win!

Presentation

Here is an excerpt from my presentation rehearsal where I walk through some of the basic layout decisions our team agreed upon.
